One of our favorite preschool activities is making pictures with mosaic tiles. A picture is placed behind a clear tray with little squares. The child must choose from different shapes and colors of tiles to complete the picture.
This activity strengthens the pincer grasp and is great for learning early geometry skills. Figuring out which tiles are needed and how to place them correctly requires concentration and analysis, particularly with the triangle tiles.
There are a variety of pictures that range in level of difficulty. It’s best to start out easy and slowly build to more challenging pictures. We have two rules when completing this activity: 1. Finish what you start. 2. Clean up all the tiles. A few usually drop and putting all the tiles into the bag can be a bore, but it is a part of the activity. Learning fortitude and respect are side benefits of this fun and education activity.

They were passed along to me from my mom. She used them in her preschool years ago. I haven’t found an exact match, but check the educational supply stores.

I love those tiles where did you get them.
