Yesterday, the weather in Miami dipped into the 50s.
Brrr!
Even though I am from Washington State, I did what every mother in Miami did; I bundled my kids up to the max with hats and mittens. We don’t own any proper winter coats, so we made due with layers and sweatshirts. Only one child at school had a real coat and she just moved from Atlanta. It only gets cold for a few days each winter (If that!) so buying a proper coat that will be outgrown seems a bit extreme.
Extreme, like hats and mittens when it’s 63°!
Yes, these pictures are from today, but damn it, we’re still cold. It won’t be in the 80s until tomorrow, or maybe even the day after. I have missed two days of swimming this week. Oh, bother.
It’s strange knowing that my friends and family would be shedding layers and sporting shorts and sandals if they had our forecast, but… when in Rome, buy Prada. When it’s below 70 in Miami, wear a scarf.
True Miamians always look at my gloved hands clutching a hot chai and tell me, But you’re from the North, you must be used to it.
I have lived here for 9 1/2 years. I tell them the truth.
There was a reason I moved.
