2 toddlers + 1 Christmas tree = TOTAL DISASTER!
At least that’s my assumption. Hopefully we outsmarted Max and Jack this year. First of all, we set up our Christmas tree in our sun room/ office/ yoga room/ gym. It’s next door to our kitchen which means there’s a baby gate protecting it. Usually our tree resides in our living room, but I need to leave the babies in there without supervision and I think they’re crafty enough to break down or climb over any barriers we could create.
Our second measure is not putting up any of our pretty glass ornaments, because those two little boys are fast. Luckily, I thought of a great idea so we can still enjoy our prettiest ornaments. I hung them from our dining room light fixture with a very thin wire. They look quite magical floating above our table. The babies love them and I can admire them more because they’re not hidden in the tree.
I also have some lovely glass icicle ornaments I hung from our curtain rod in the living room. It hints at the frosty windows I grew up with in the Northwest. Did I mention Bing Crosby was from my hometown? I’m dreaming of a white Christmas….
All in all, I think we should be fine with the decorations. There are a few family horror stories involving cats and children climbing up Christmas trees. I believe one involved urine. I also remember a tale of Grandaddy getting so mad the tree was knocked down, he hammered it to the floor to keep in in place. We’re Irish, so I’m never certain of the veracity of our family lore.
Here are a few shots of the kitchen. I just love gingerbread boys. Our living room is decorated in a natural woodland style. It’s so gorgeous, but the pictures I took make it look flat, so I’m not sharing them. All in all it feels elegant, cozy, Christmasy and so full of love it’s almost romantic around here. I hope your home glows with love too. Merry Christmas!
