We love you!
Becoming a parent happens in two ways. The first is sudden, the crash of life entering the world. You catch a baby, you cut a cord and there you are, a father.
The second is more subtle, it’s the transformation over time in which your entire identity is permeated by your role as a father. It happens when you bathe a child, feed a child, wipe a child. It happens when you allow yourself to enter and get lost in a child’s world. It happens when you teach a child something new or rush to kiss a boo boo. It happens at 7 am every single day until one morning you wake up and there you are, a daddy.
Max and Jack have not ventured deep into the world yet. What they know of fathers is that they love you, they are eager to spend time with you, they can fix things, build things and have wonderful ideas. They know that Daddies work, but would always rather play with their kids. They know Daddies are fun and funny, loud and lazy bones, gruff and gentle.
Everything they know about fathers comes directly from you. They are growing so fast, because they have big shoes to fill.
They want to be just like you.
And nothing will make me prouder than to see them do just that.
