Pumpkin Patch 2014

Growing up in Washington State, where actual pumpkin patches exist, I never went to one.  We always got a big, fat pumpkin from the grocery store up the street.  Now that I live in Miami, we make an annual pilgrimage (or 4) to a make-believe pumpkin patch stocked with pumpkins shipped in a semi-truck from New Mexico.  Go figure!

This year our costumes are literary: Captain Hook, Peter Pan, and God help me, I have to pull together a Tinkerbell for yours truly.  Suggestions welcome!  I’d like it to cost about $3 and take 30 minutes to make.

Max wins the temporary title of favorite child because he wore his costume to the Pumpkin Patch so I could take pictures we will treasure for a lifetime.  Jack was very excited about the knife from his costume, but is saving Peter Pan for the real deal.  He capped off his look with the 2-year-old-dollar-store fedora that was sloppily turned into a Mary Poppins costume for the graduation show last year.  Lately he’s been a pretty wild dresser, splashing as many colors and patterns together as possible and randomly clipping ties onto t-shirts whenever he feels fancy.  I really don’t care.  I demand fashion dominion over Christmas, Easter, and St. Pat’s Day, but completely abdicate the rest of the year to my children’s taste (or lack their of).
