Here is my favorite Vegetarian Thanksgiving Menu. The countdown is on…!
A vegetarian Thanksgiving may not seem traditional, but just because you’re not eating turkey doesn’t mean each Thanksgiving the menu needs to start from scratch. I know that food writers are constantly called upon to reinvent the wheel, but for Thanksgiving that always seems odd to me. Doesn’t everyone crave the same harvest flavors come a brisk Thursday in late November? Once you master a recipe, don’t you want to make it again? And doesn’t that sense of tradition and anticipation create a feeling of togetherness in a family?
All this is to say, mamaguru.com is once again Vegetarian Central for Thanksgiving, but with the same lovely dishes as last year and a few fun additions. I honestly adore our Elegant Apricot Stuffing with Crispy Sage leaves and savory Harvest Nut Loaf. I couldn’t imagine ever giving them up. Why mess with perfection?
In the interest of trying something new, I will be sharing a few new side and dessert dishes later this week as well as a vegetarian Thanksgiving entree that will delight non-traditionalists or be a welcoming alternative for vegetarians celebrating Thanksgiving with non-vegetarians. Hmm…isn’t the sharing of harvest with different people a big part of this holiday?
Although our recipes are geared towards non-vegetarians, all of these yummy side dishes should find a home on any Thanksgiving table. With 20% of the US population being vegetarian, many families have mixed diets at their table. If you are hosting a vegetarian guest this year, I have tips to make everyone feel welcome.
