Get out of my produce section, so-called Buddy Fruits!
You are not a fruit or a vegetable! You are a fruit product, not produce.
Right in the heart of stone fruit season my local grocery store, Publix, has given up prime real estate in the produce section to this boxed, imitation, processed, over-packaged crap. Shame on you Publix!
Please people, don’t buy Buddy Fruits under any circumstances. What a nefarious company to invade the already too small produce section usurping the real food! If you want delicious fruit, try a peach. They are in-season, which means they are ripe and inexpensive. They have no wasteful packaging and their juice will drip down your arm, creating an iconic taste of summer.
This might seem like a harmless bit of marketing, but very little of grocery stores today contain actual food. If this brave new entry into the produce section is successful, it will be repeated and copied. We will lose the little bit of food we have, and children will grow to have warped perceptions about what food is.
I know, farmer’s markets, organic specialty stores and home-grown veggies are the way to go. However, not everybody has access to this produce due to economics and location. Regular grocery stores must continue to stock real food. They must!
