My mom always made me a homemade present for Christmas. I loved them although I did wonder why she never bought me anything. Santa spoiled me, but my mom hardly spent a dime. As a child I wondered why I used all my savings on her gift while she only made me something simple? I never spoke this out loud, because Santa had been so generous. But still….
I treasured those gifts my mom made me and quickly began making my own presents. I know people are very busy these days and it is easy to buy some very nice things. But making presents allows you to slow down the hectic pace of the holidays. The hours you spend making something for someone you love fill your heart with joy.
Last year I made Max and Jack these gingerbread boys. I made a freehand pattern on a brown grocery bag and cut it out of felt. I used a blanket stitch with yarn all around to mimic icing. They are stuffed with the basic poly fill and no sewing machine was used. Rik-rak, ribbons and buttons completed the decorations.
Here’s a video of Max last Christmas. It’s the best thanks I could ever have.
